Engineering workshop

Engineers by Curiosity,
Builders by Trade.

We merge computational thinking with physical craft — from lines of code to layers of filament.

our story

Founded in Montréal in 2025, the Institut de Recherche et Exploration Musicale (IREM) was born at the crossroads of music, engineering, and fabrication. The idea had been building for years — born from the frustration of watching great creative and technical problems go unsolved because no one was willing to work across both worlds at once. In late 2024, a grant from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) gave the team the validation and momentum to make it real.

Today, IREM operates as a Canadian engineering and R&D organization, delivering software platforms, 3D-fabricated prototypes, and acoustic research to clients and institutional partners. Our philosophy remains unchanged: if it doesn't work as well as it sounds, it doesn't ship.

Our Philosophy

Engineering Precision

We build with intention. Whether writing DSP algorithms or designing a 3D-printed wind instrument, every decision is grounded in technical rigor.

Creative Depth

Technology is most powerful when it serves human expression. Our projects often live at the crossroads of science and art.

Research-Driven

We don't just ship products; we study the science behind them. Our R&D informs everything we make.

Ready to build something real?
